We offer more than one way to search the Boulder Community Network. Let us know what you think of the various ways, and we will try to improve them.

Searching BCN itself

The methods in this section only search information provided directly from the BCN server (i.e. all documents with a URL which starts with http://bcn.boulder.co.us/). Thus these searches will not find information provided by CU's Home Page or the Boulder Valley School District, nor will they search the whole World Wide Web or Internet.

Also note that sometimes these searches will uncover old pages that have been moved elsewhere and are no longer updated. Your help in reporting such pages is appreciated!

• ht://dig works similarly to Internet search engines like Google or Altavista, but finds only local pages.

Searching the whole World Wide Web

These engines search various forms of information elsewhere on the World Wide Web.

• Google - widely considered the best search engine because it ranks hits very well and sites can't pay to get good placement, coverage is awesome, it has "cached" versions of pages that are no longer reachable, etc.
• Open Directory Project - ODP- the largest, most comprehensive human-edited "subject directory" of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors.
• Alta Vista Search
• Yahoo is the original human-edited "subject directory", like the Open Directory Project.
• A List of all Frequently-Asked-Questions posted to news.answers (a great source for most topics discussed in netnews)
• Inference Find The Intelligent Massively Fast Parallel Web Search
• The Informant remembers your search arguments and tells you when the results change. (*FREE*)
• Highway 61 submit your search to multiple engines at once.
• C | Net's collection of all the search engines in one place.
• Lycos: The Catalog of the Internet provides lots of info about each search result.
• EINet Galaxy: index of WWW, Gopher and Hytelnet info
