MEMBERSHIP HANDBOOK
Note: Excerpts of the Membership Handbook are presented here. The full paper handbook will be distributed at the first rehearsal with sheet music. Also at the first rehearsal, an information packet will be distributed regarding ordering procedures for women's concert clothing.
Concert Dress Code
The Concert Dress Code has been established primarily for the purpose of advancing our professional and tasteful appearance, in an understated manner. With this in mind, the following policies have been adopted.
WOMEN
The chosen concert attire for women is required for all female participants. Though tops are identical, there is a choice between pants or a skirt. Hemlines are to be 2 inches from the floor, with shoes on.
Each woman is to purchase her own attire from the specified, chosen manufacturer designated by the concert dress committee. Returns, exchanges and alterations are the responsibility of the individual.
ALTERATIONS FOR WOMEN
Each person is responsible for making and/or paying for her own alterations.
Acceptable and expected alterations include:
* hemming the skirt or pants so that they are 2 inches from the floor with shoes on
and
* hemming sleeves to attain a comfortable wrist-length.
Any other alterations should not interrupt the uniform appearance of the group as viewed from the audience. Alterations that result in changing the original lines of the clothing---such as a different neckline, obvious darts, additional seams, changing skirt and pant widths or creating visible bulges---will stand out.
Please keep in mind that our primary goal in establishing consistent concert apparel is to not draw attention away from the sounds we’re creating. In keeping with this goal, the concert dress committee reserves the right to prohibit any aberrant alterations. It is advisable, then, to contact the concert dress chair prior to having alterations completed which may result in the types of changes listed above. Thanks for your cooperation in this!
MEN
Required concert dress for men is black trousers, black tuxedo-like jackets, white (not cream) tuxedo shirts, black bow ties, black studs and black cummerbunds.
Each man is to purchase, or rent, his own tuxedo and accessories from the establishment of his choosing.
EVERYBODY
Shoes are to be all black, preferably dress. Non-black buckles, laces, contrast stitching, etc. are not acceptable. Stockings/and or socks must also be black. No jewelry, other than wedding or engagement rings, may be worn.
Although deodorants should be used during performances, we ask that you please refrain from wearing scented deodorants or other scented perfumes, colognes, shampoos, hairsprays, etc. Some members may be allergic to them, and especially susceptible during close stage contact.
Please be advised beforehand that those not fully cooperating with the adopted dress code will not be allowed on stage to perform. Thank you in advance for understanding and following these standards.
Please address the Concert Dress Committee Chair with concerns or special needs.
