City of Boulder/USGS Water Quality Monitoring
Boulder Creek Watershed
City of Boulder Water Quality Data Collection

Water Quality monitoring data is provided by a cooperative program between the City of Boulder (COB) Public Works Department and Dr. Larry Barber of the US Geological Survey Boulder Laboratory.

Source water quality is monitored by Jim Shelley of the COB Drinking Water Monitoring Program at several drinking source locations in the headwaters of the basin. General information about sample collection and analysis procedures is available here.

Stream Water Quality is monitored by Jim Stout of the COB Storm Water Monitoring Program throughout the lower basin. General information about sample collection and analysis procedures is available here.

Both monitoring programs collect samples for a USGS study of Organic Carbon concentrations thoroughout the natural stream system and city drinking water infrastucture. These samples are analyzed by USGS personnel at the USGS Boulder Lab.

Monthly readings of 5 primary water quality parameters (water temperature, pH, specific conductance, and the concentration of dissolved oxygen and total organic carbon) are accessible through the BASIN Water Quality data access page

Water Quality profiles plots span both the Source and Storm water data collection programs. For collection and analysis details on a specific site select a time series plot for that site and refer to the Collection and Analysis notes link on that page.
