A. Review / Jim H. / Re-affirm Center Standards -

Specifically the use of the BCN logo and header on all BCN centers.

DECISION

1. Logo is required for all centers

2. Centers without logos will get one more e-mail message encouraging them to place the logo before staff places the logo in the center.

3. Staff will notify the center developer they have placed the logo in their site.

4. Logo should not be too large thay it is screaming at people

5. Same header should used on each subpage

not yet applies to DIPP users but will require logo on their home page in the future

1. Jim H. will notify center developers individually to add the BCN logoo and will add to them the BCN logo if they do not.

If so, what should it be.

DECISION

1. Yes, the logo should be identical and link back to the BCN Homepage.

2. The Logo to be used ids the BCN graphic it should be place in the upper left corner

3. The title of the Center shoul be at the top center

4. BCN header under the Center title with text link to BCN home page (will help thecasual user fing theior way)

C. Discussion / Dinah Deragisch / Should we set a standard of not underlining lists of links?

DISCUSSION

1. The concern over the business of the BCN centers with a list of links is shared by all at the center developer meeting

2. The casual user is told that all linkls are underlined it could be confusing to new web users whether or not this is a link.

3. Not all browsers and monitors have color to identify a link

DECISION

1. We do not require the HTML code be written so links dont get underlined

2. Center developers are encouraged to do what they can to lessen the business of their page.

3. Center developers who do not want to underline their links are welcome to do so.

4. Center developers are encouraged to give a short sentence description of the link immediately underneath it

1. Jim H will add to recommended center standards. Who maintains?

F. Discussion / Jim H. Y2K is not just a computer bug problem it is alsoan election year.

Presidential campaigns have already begun. What does BCN need to do to keep the political center up to date for the Y2K election cycle both locally and nationally?

DISCUSSION

1. There are other free web hosting services a canadite can use but BCNs is commercial free

2. We do not wnat to create more work for BCN prefer to link to other political election result sites.

DECISION

1. Provide links

2. Provide web pages to all Boulder County candidates who want them.

FURTHER ELABORATION ON DISCUCCION

1. BCN should provide web space for political canadites

2. BCN would provide web services to all Boulder County canadites

3. It is handled as any other web hosting service. They sign the Information Provider Contract. They can request assistance of a BCN volunteer to build the site.

4. BCN will host on an on request basis. BCN will not actively pursue canadites to have their web sites hosted on BCN

5. Although there are other free web hosting services BCN is unique in providing a non commercial web hosting environment.

6. BCN has provided this service in the past

7. Hosting web sites for all Boulder County Canadites that request them fits within the mission of BCN

Pierre has started http://bcn.boulder.co.us/communication/bcnhelp.html but it's not exposed...any comments/ideas

DECISION

1. Staff should add to and use as a internal resource

2. When more is added Pierre will add link from communication center

3. When many questions are answered on add to trailer of all BCN centers

ACTION

1. Staff will add to FAQ page.

H. COMMENTS

HOME PAGE

1. Puzzle piece graphic too dark on some browsers/ graphic cards/ monitors/ to read the text in the graphic

2. On many browsers you do not see the list of centers underneath the puzzle pieces

3. Puzzle pieces dont make anything

4. If the pieces were an anamaited giff coming together it could take too long to load and other older browsers could not support Y2K

1. Future plans for the site by June 2000 is to take the good links in it and make it into a general internet support site.
