Minto Rendezvous-Invit Letter
1999 WILLIAM M. MINTO CAMP CASA MARE, SEABROOK, TEXAS Dear Skipper and Crew: Labor Day, America's celebration of shorter work days and weeks. Labor Day, summer's last blast before cooler autumn weather. Labor Day weekend, a time for Sea Scouts in the Southeast Region to gather for the annual William M. Minto Rendezvous sponsored by the Sam Houston Area Council Fleet and hosted by the San Jacinto Mariner Girl Scouts. The Minto Rendezvous follows a traditional format. Most competitive events reflect skills youth must know for sailing and advancement; however, other events require more laughter, luck and perseverance than ability. True fun begins poolside after the day's competition is over. After the Flotsam Flotilla runs their race, everyone relaxes and enjoys fellowship with new and old friends. Casa Mare' is the San Jacinto Girl Scouts' sailing camp. Dormitories are spacious and comfortable, and the camp has a basketball court, swimming pool, Sunfish fleet, and beautiful grounds to enjoy once competition is over. Food is delicious and the camaraderie reflects Texas friendship and hospitality. The cost is $25.00 per participant which includes a T-shirt, awards and six homecooked meals (two on Saturday, three on Sunday, and one on Monday). For crews coming from beyond our council who are interested in sailing on Galveston Bay on Friday evening or Monday afternoon, we will make every attempt to arrange a sail for your youth. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information, a Boarding Manual describing events/rules/etc., or a sample Mariner's and First Aid Quiz. The Minto Rendezvous is an experience your youth will enjoy and want to repeat every year. Ya'll come, Cassie Johnson, SHAC Fleet |
