Boatswain / President

• youth leader of the unit
• implement the unit program w/ cooperation of officers and members
• works closely w/ Advisors in a spirit of partnership
• available to report to charter org and unit committee
• assist Advisors in doing officer training
• appoint youth chairs for special projects
• presents annual report to charter org at end of term AND at courts of honor
• assess on an ongoing basis whether the responsibilities of officers are considered and being carried out effectively
• approaches and encourages a spirit of fun and enjoyment in Venturing

Boatswain Mate / Vice-President of Administration

• assume office of B/P in their absence
• lead recruitment and admission of new members
• organize and recognize achievements of members
• conduct open/closing ceremonies for special occasions
• approaches and encourages a spirit of fun and enjoyment in Venturing

Boatswain Mate / Vice-President of Program

• arrange program planning process of unit
• collects and maintains a unit activity file
  • program capability inventory, member interests, suggested activities, program resources and annual activity schedule
• determine interests of members on an ongoing basis
• provides support for activity crew leaders
• maintain and up-to-date calendar of meetings and activities, ie: web page calendar, etc.
• approaches and encourages a spirit of fun and enjoyment in Venturing

Boatswain Mate / Vice-President of Communication.

• maintain unit membership and attendance records
• handle crew correspondence and meeting minutes
  • maintain phone tree/ make sure phone calls get out to everyone
  • send e-mail out
  • crew minutes to web site
• coordinate unit publicity through local media, unit news letters, and unit phone network
• approaches and encourages a spirit of fun and enjoyment in Venturing

Purser / Treasurer

• maintain financial records and monitors unit budget
• collects and disburses crew funds
  • dues, trip costs, etc.
• communicates w/ officers and members on a regular basis of our finances
• approaches and encourages a spirit of fun and enjoyment in Venturing

All officers  must be willing to attend most Crew/Ship meetings, executive meetings, and activities.

Ship and crew officers co-leaders; they share the roles and responsibilities. Its like the tri-executive (three person presidential body of CU.) These descriptions are taken and modified from the Venturer Handbook.
