Remembrances of late club members

The club offers a variety of activities throughout the year:

  • Field trips - Planning for the new season has begun. We are still looking for great places to go and for field trip leaders for this summer. Please contact Shaula Lee if you have an idea for a field trip or you would like to lead a trip.
  • Junior Geologists – The Jr. Geologists meet every third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Families interested in joining the Jr. Geologists should contact Dennis Gertenbach. The next Jr. Geologists meeting will be November 19 at Charlotte Morrison’s house. Learn how to read topographical maps during an evening treasure hunt.
  • Workshops - Remember, use of the club’s lapidary equipment, including saws and lapidary machines, is open to all club members every Wednesday night at
Charlotte Morrison’s home. Please call to let her know you're coming. In late summer, club members also prepare specimens for grab bags to be sold at the club's annual show. Click here for instructions on how to sew a grab bag.
  • Annual Gem & Mineral Show - Dec. 11-13, 2009, Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Rd. (Nelson & Hover), Longmont, CO.
  • Annual Silent Auction - April 8, 2010 at the Senior Center.

The Flatirons Mineral Club maintains resources for members' use:

  • Slab saw and lapidary equipment
  • Mining equipment
  • Library of print, maps, serials, and other materials

The Flatirons Mineral Club sponsors a scholarship to the Colorado School of Mines, which is awarded annually. These are funded primarily by proceeds of the children's activities at our annual show and grab bag sales.

There are 2 winners for the 2007-2008 academic year: Cassia D. Roe recipient, and Jeffrey Godwin. Colin Melvin is the first alternate.
