Five League members, Shirley Betancourt-Conley, Caroline Gonzales, Emma
Pena McCleave, Carmen Ramirez, and Exal Velez-Stanton, received Daily Camera's
2002 Boulder County Pacesetter awards, recognizing their exemplary service
to our community.
In addition, Leticia Alonso de Lazano, another League member --
who was a Pacesetter recipient last year - was the keynote
speaker at this year's event, which was sponsored by the Daily
Camera.
The 2002 BCLWL-affiliated winners, who received the Pacesetter community
service award, were each members of the Boulder County Latino Task Force.
Along with other Task Force members, these women produced in-depth survey
and report about the county's Latino community. Policymakers now have a
well-researched, statistically-valid tool that helps them better understand
the needs, skills and demographics of Boulder county's Latino population.
