Dick Tennant, Crew Advisor

I will first introduce myself. I have been involved in Scouting as an adult for the last 18 years. I was a Scoutmaster for 5 years and am still an assistant with the same Troop that I helped start 18 years ago. I have been an advisor for an coed outdoor Explorer Post for the past 8 years. I have held, and in some cases still hold jobs at the District and Council level. Either as a Scoutmaster or Advisor I have taken units to Sea Base, Boundary Waters Canoe Area, and Philmont. I will be taking a coed unit to Philmont this June.

I was Scoutmaster of a Troop to the '93 National Jamboree, staffed the '97 Jamboree, and was Advisor of the Western Region Post to the '95 World Jamboree. The Post was, along with the other US Posts one of the first coed Posts the USA ever sent to an international Scouting event.

I am a retired engineer and former Naval Officer having graduated from the Naval Academy many years ago, but not as long ago as the days of sailing ships. My wife is an occupational therapist with our local school district where she works with physically and mentally impaired children. Our son and daughter in law are both lawyers in Nashville.

Our family has had several other young people live with us. We have two foster sons from Vietnam, and have had exchange students from Berlin, Spain, Denmark (2), and Moscow. The latter lived with us 2 years while in high school, attended college in the USA, married a US citizen, and is now attending law school. As a result of having all of these young people live with us, we have traveled to Europe several times to visit their families. We will get to Vietnam later.

This is enough about me. In future memos, I will send out information on the Assistant Advisors and about you. In order for me to do this, I will be sending out information forms for you to fill out and return to me.

Yours in Exploring

Dick Tennent
