GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
The goals of the Colorado-Yamagata Youth Ambassador Program
are:
- to encourage international cultural understanding among high school
students in Colorado and in Yamagata;
- to provide opportunities for Japanese language practice; and
- to promote leadership among Colorado high school students.
We are pleased to announce that the 1996 program will place special
emphasis on activities that provide students with an in-depth
understanding of international business and communication. As we approach
the 21st Century, our relationship with Japan continues to be vitally
important. Seminar topics and activities identified are: women in the
workplace; economic interdependence between Japan and Colorado; ski and
other tourist industries; high-tech industries; transportation; and the
importance of agriculture in the economies of Japan and Colorado.
1996 PARTICIPANTS
Fifteen high school students will be selected to participate in this
year's program. Two Colorado educators will accompany the students. To
qualify for the 1996 Program, applicants must:
- be a member in good standing of the class of 1996, 1997, 1998 or
1999 at any high school in Colorado (public or private;
- preferably meet one of the following criteria: one-year of study of
Japanese language; one year course work in international business or
global studies; or experience in hosting Japanese visitors;
- obtain proof of physical fitness for travel and verification of
health insurance coverage; and
- attend pre-trip orientation activities.
PROGRAM COSTS
The cost of the trip is $1500 per delegate, including airfare to/from
Tokyo, one night hotel stay in Tokyo and bullet train fare to/from
Yamagata. Lodging and meals will be provided by the Yamagata Prefectural
Government and homestay hosts. The price does not include personal
spending money while in Japan.

letter of recommendation from a high school teacher. Applicants will
be interviewed and selected by a committee comprised of members of the
Japan American society of Colorado, the Colorado Department of Education
and one of the teachers who will accompany the student delegation. Please
