Prototype: Query a Library Image Database
This is a prototype of an image retrieval
application which
uses the Z39.50 information retrieval standard to query a library catalog
which refers to image files which can be viewed via the World Wide Web.
For example, try searching for the term "smuggler".
After a few modifications are made to the code,
the query will return this, which
contains a link to view the actual image identified by the catalog record.
This is a prototype demo of how open standards like
Z39.50
and the World Wide Web can provide
innovative solutions for libraries, as proposed in a grant
to ACLIN (Access Colorado Library and
Information Network) from the Department of Education.
It would not have been possible without the kind help of Thorn Roby
of CARL corporation,
Kevin Gamiel of
CNIDR (Clearinghouse for Networked
Information Discovery and Retrieval, pronounced Snider),
the staff of the
Boulder Public Library and
