WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE:

Project Self-Sufficiency provides and brokers a complete package of services designed to assist low income families in becoming self-sufficient. The services include:

DO I QUALIFY FOR HELP:

Families must qualify for Section 8 housing assistance. Generally, this is an annual income of less than $20,000 for a two person household, and less than $25,250 for four person households.

WHO DO I CONTACT:

Prospective clients call for applications to be mailed out to them and/or apply at any community agency that keeps applications on hand. Families may apply at any time, and there are currently two intake sessions a year.

HOW DOES IT WORK:

All PSS applicants are required to attend an informational meeting and a workshop before they are accepted into the program. Upon acceptance each participant is assigned a case manager who will provide one-on-one support throughout the program. All participants also attend a 2 week life skills course which focuses on personal empowerment and the1-2-3 steps in starting training or school. Life skills classes and support sessions are offered on an ongoing basis to participants.

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES FOR SUCCESS:

PSS serves over 170 families during a year and since program inception in1986, has assisted 340 families in becoming self-sufficient. The 1993 Outcome Study showed 63% of participants became employed after completing PSS, with an average hourly wage of $9.00.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST:

There are no fees to clients for PSS services.
