(Boulder, CO)—PLAN-Boulder County will be hosting a series of city council candidate forums every Friday in September. The forums will be held on consecutive Fridays—September 7, 14, 21 and 28—in the Boulder Creek Room of the downtown Boulder Public Library from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Boulder voters will fill seven positions on the nine-member City Council in November, with 22 candidates registered in the race. In order to give the candidates adequate time to present their views and describe their experience, PLAN-Boulder County will invite four to six different candidates to each forum. City Council candidates will first respond to prepared questions, followed by a lively round of audience questions. The Sept. 7 forum will feature Seth Brigham, Shawn Coleman, Susan Peterson, Tom Riley and Ken Wilson.

Admission is free and the public is invited to come hear City Council candidates present their views on a range of issues that affect Boulder's environment and quality of life, including growth management, transportation master plan and mass transit, open space, recreation, affordable housing, energy conservation and climate change, and historic preservation.

"With the many open city council seats, and the many important planning and environmental issues pending before the city council, this election will be pivotal in determining the future of Boulder's environment," stated Pat Shanks, Chair of PLAN-Boulder County. "We invite every Boulder resident to attend these forums to ask their own questions and get to know the candidates."

PLAN-Boulder County will be making endorsements of city council candidates based on a rigorous inquiry by the board into candidate qualifications. To that end, PLAN-Boulder County is distributing an in-depth questionnaire focused on growth and environment issues to all city council candidates. The candidates' responses to PLAN-Boulder County's questionnaire will be posted on this website. In addition, this same information will be sent out on the People's Advocate e-mail list (Subscribe).
