Summit Middle Charter School was designated Wednesday as a Blue Ribbon School.
Summit is among six schools in the state and 214 in the country honored through the Blue Ribbon program under the new federal No Child Left Behind law. The program recognizes schools that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or, as is the case with Summit, whose students score in the top 10 percent on state tests.
The schools are nominated by the state school chief and submit applications to the U.S. Department of Education. The schools will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., in October.
