Students Score Honors at Regional Science Fair

Summit students participating in the Regional Science Fair on March 6 and 7 were Maggie Fee, Gilbert Lemieux, Evan O'Loughlin, James Norton, Corinne D'Ippolito, Paul Franz, Anna Lindemann, Robert Lee, Anastasia Petropavlovskikh, Ben Gilman, Antti Koivuniemi, and Eric Hansford (alternate for Laura Scrimgeour, who was unable to attend).

Although none of our students made it to the Colorado State Science Fair this year, Summit scientists won a significant number of honors and awards.

Earning honors were Ben Gilman and Antti Koivuniemi (Team Project), Gilbert Lemieux (Earth and Environmental Science), Robert Lee (Engineering), and James Norton (Physical Science).

Students winning awards and savings bonds were Corinne D'Ippolito (McGuckin's Hardware Award in Earth and Environmental Science), Gilbert Lemieux (Roche Environmental Science Award), and Robert Lee (Roche Engineering Award).

Dr. Sikora noted a high level of excitement and camaraderie among the Summit students.

P.S. The Summit Science Fair, reported in the previous issue of Summit News, was held on February 20, not February 27. Thanks to Deborah Vink for helping set up the science fair tables for the Summit Science Fair.

CTBS Week, April 6-10

by Coach Adams

It is standardized test time again in the Rocky Mountains. Summit will give the CTBS to the entire student body during the week of April 6. Testing will begin at 8:10 AM sharp. Each day's test will be about one to two hours in length.

All students are required to be at school during test week. Please be prompt for 1st-period attendance; no late students! Let's show what Summit is made of! If you have any questions, please contact Coach Adams.

A few tips for students to achieve high scores: (1) Have a positive mental attitude. (2) Do your very best. Don't worry, be happy. (3) Get a great weekend of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. (4) Wear some of your favorite, most comfortable clothing. (5) Take your time during the test and read each question carefully. (6) Enjoy the test and make it fun.

Summit Poet Laureate

Summit student Lynne Costain published a poem in Kidz Magazine. The feature selects compositions by middle- and high-school students written for elementary-school students.

Farther I Go

by Lynne H. Costain

Farther I go,
The ground my only foe.
Harder I must try,
On and on till I shall die.
No longer young or spry,
My once lovely face now wizened with age,
My figure hunched as if caged.
Onward I must go,
Until I reach the place where the wind will
Blow me into the sky,
Where I belong,
Listening to the tree-whispered song.
Soon I shall be free,
Gone from this worn body.
Farther I go!
