Note to Parents of Incoming 6th Graders

Students with strong recommendations from their 5th-grade teachers or with high achievement test scores in math should consider enrolling in one of the honors sections of math at Summit. Please call Principal Bernie Grove or Counselor Kendra Bartley if your child is not yet enrolled in honors math but you think he or she should be.

Summit Spring Concerts

May 12, 7-8 PM, is the Spring concert of the Summit bands. The concert will feature Jazz Band 2 playing "Sweet Home Chicago," the Flute-Violin Jazz combo playing "On Green Dolphin Street," and Jazz Band 1 performing "Lord of the Dance" and "Louie, Louie." Jazz Band 2 will be recording some of their best hits that evening. We hope to see you at this fun concert.

On May 21, 7-8:15 PM, the Summit Choir, Orchestra, Select Strings, and Silver Rain (accompanied by Jazz Band 2) will close this year's concert series. The Summit Choir will perform a wide variety of choral music, including "The Power of the Dream" with the Orchestra. Select Strings will perform the first movement of Bach's Concerto in D Minor for Two Violins, featuring a number of our gifted soloists. Silver Rain will perform selections from "Hansel and Gretel" (which brought them acclaim in Steamboat Springs), and their first collaboration with the Jazz Band 2, the swing classic from Rodgers and Hart's "Blue Moon."

Seeing Is Believing

Congratulations to Davis Hart and Dr. Sikora for their presentation, "A Microscopic Vista," to the Foundation for Boulder Valley Schools on May 4. Dr. Sikora was honored as one of six recipients of a Quantum Leap Initiative Award. Her proposal resulted in Summit acquiring a video microscope monitor system for classroom use.

Summit Graduation

The second annual Summit graduation and awards ceremony will be held on Friday, June 5, 1:00-2:45 PM in the Fairview High School auditorium. A Summit musical prelude will be presented 12:45-1:00 PM. This year's ceremony promises to be even more spectacular than last year's. All Summit parents, friends, and alumni and their parents, are invited. Students will be on a shortened schedule that day, 28 minutes per period. Lunch will be held at the usual time, 10:46-11:16 AM. Students will be dismissed at the Fairview cafeteria at 2:45 PM. Parents may pick up students either at the Fairview cafeteria or at Summit at the usual time.
