Stuff Your Family for Summit

Pay for your Thanksgiving feast with grocery coupons and support Summit at the same time. King Soopers, Leevers, and Wild Oats certificates are available in the Summit office.

Books Needed for Our New Library

Rummage through your house for books to donate to the K-12 library which will be located at our new site beginning in August 2000. Look for books at garage sales. Some libraries have perpetual sales. Donate any book or educational magazine that you feel would fit in a K-12 library. Book donations are tax deductible. Drop them off in north Boulder at Angie Dorsey’s house, 4769 6th Street, 303-449-4342, or in southeastern Boulder at Cathy Woods’ house, 5236 Gallatin Place, 303-444-1791. A drop-off location for east county is still needed. If you would like to join the new library committee, call Sheryl Tippit, 303-499-1810.

Come to the Cabaret

Fairview High School will present the musical, Cabaret, on November 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.

Summit Board

The next Summit Board meeting will be held on Monday, November 22, at 7 PM in the faculty workroom. Parents and students are always welcome. [Postponed to November 29.]

Planned Absences

Absences of several days or more usually have a significant negative impact on grades and educational progress. Although homework and some assignments can be made up, lost instructional time cannot be regained. Science labs, class discussion, practice applying ideas, and the opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback are classroom activities that are vital to your student’s academic success. Parents are urged to make every possible effort to schedule travel plans during times when school is not in session.

If you find that you must remove your child from school, we ask you to write a note to the Summit staff describing your plans and the dates you will be gone. This note should be handed in to the office, where it will be copied and distributed to all of your child’s teachers. Also, have your student pick up an “Assignments to Complete” form from the office to take around to all of his/her teachers before leaving. Parents should initial the form to show that they are aware of what their child will need to accomplish. When your child returns, make sure all of the assignments listed are completed, along with any additional make-up work that needs to be done.

PVC Connection

Utopia Unlimited: Many thanks to Cathy Burchett and Margie Gunter for publishing the indispensable Summit Directory. It has more than phone numbers--check it out!

Pirates of Penzance or The Slave of Duty: Our Summit music library is almost completely filed and catalogued thanks to the tremendous efforts of Susan Brownstone, Barbara Metzger, and Marylou Oppenheimer.

Yeomen of the Guard: Teachers' workroom volunteers copy, correct, and provided teacher support services everyday of the week. A special thanks from Ms. Kapsak and Ms. Hanckel.

Volunteering at Summit is almost as fun as a Gilbert and Sullivan opera. Join the fun -- our teachers will sing your praises.

Student Council

On October 24 and 25, the Student Council went on a leadership retreat to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. They learned what it means to be a leader, work as a team, and work out differences. They played leadership building games and learned teamwork. On the morning to the 25th, they took a sunrise hike before departing that afternoon. They also elected an Executive Council; Alicia Nemanic, President; Sarah McIntyre, Vice President; Mara Meaney-Ervin, Secretary; and Hannah Mills, Treasurer. They would like to thank the parent chaperones, Jesse Johnson, Tom Wigley, Gail Heinzman, Carla Goulart, and teacher Valerie Koch. They also enjoyed a surprise visit by former teacher Chris Koch.

Media Center News

The Media Center holds a book fair twice during each school year. The first of these will be held on November 22 and 23. Please plan to stop by to browse, to buy, or to visit. If you would like to request a book, you may contact either Linda Garcia or JoAnn Emanuel during school hours at 303-494-2866. You should allow two weeks advance notice to process requests.
