High School Registration Update

Parents, please note the highlighted changes of dates in the following article:

The high school registration and course placement recommendation process at Summit will occur February 18th through March 3rd at Summit. Boulder High and Fairview counselors will visit on Wednesday, February 18th to provide students with course booklets and registration materials. On Friday, February 20th, Summit core subject teachers will meet individually with their 8th grade students during each class period to give course placement recommendations and sign off on students' high school registration forms. After reviewing these recommendations, students should finalize their course selections and have their parents sign the forms.

On Wednesday, March 3rd, Boulder High and Fairview High counselors will return to Summit to collect students' signed and completed registration forms. Forms that do not have all core subject teachers' signatures and a parent's signature will not be accepted. Students who do not bring their forms or whose forms do not include the required signatures will have to complete these at a later date and hand-deliver them to the high school they plan to attend. Students who will be attending high schools other than Fairview or Boulder High will need to make an appointment with the high school counselor at the school they plan to attend to complete the registration process.

The high schools listed will be holding academic planning nights to assist 8th graders and their parents in choosing appropriate courses for 9th grade. Parents and students are strongly encouraged to attend these evening events to gather information about placement, course offerings, and registration procedures, as well as extra-curricular activities and athletics.

If you have any questions regarding high school registration, please feel free to call Kendra Bartley, Summit's guidance counselor, at 303-499-9511.

Annual Summit Community Meeting

The Board Report

From the February 5th Board Meeting

-- Ashley O'Connor, Summit Board

Dear Parents

We have mailed home a copy of the parent survey that was given to your child on Friday, January 30th. (This copy has been printed on yellow paper to distinguish it from the first copy that was distributed to students). Teachers have seen students filling out these surveys or throwing them away, and the administration wants to make sure that these surveys are completed by you -- the parents -- and not the students.

Your opinions about Summit's curriculum, facility and staff are very important. The students will be given an opportunity to express their opinion on the Student Satisfaction Survey which will be handed out and completed in class on February 10th.

Summit relies greatly on the feed back we receive from both our parents and our students to help meet the needs of our Summit community. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey and please return it at your very earliest convenience.

Spanish News … and Gracias! -- Wendy Blakemore

In Beginning Spanish, we recently had a delicious learning experience! We made burritos in class with quite a variety of ingredients and hot sauces. By using new Spanish vocabulary and courtesies, we embellished both our brains and our stomachs. Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers who also did a great job of using Spanish: Tricia Fitzpatrick, David Schermerhorn, Brenda Bowman, Hyeawon Chai (Grant Buster's mother), Elizabeth Benz, and Hillary Griffith, who, along with her son Daniel Haarburger, also taught us the Salsa! A special thanks to Jean Luce who hasn't missed a Spanish volunteer activity in three years! We appreciate you all tremendously.

Lost: Microphone

Our microphone was last seen attached to an oscilloscope in the multi-purpose room at the Summit Science Fair on Friday, February 6th. The microphone is black and about 8-9 inches in length, with an on/off switch. The cord to attach the mike to the unit is also missing. Please return the item to the Summit office or call the Reisfields at 303-554-9553. It's difficult for us to record music at home without this piece of equipment and it is an expensive item to replace. Thanks!

-- Cathy Reisfield

A CSAP Reminder

This year's CSAP tests will be administered March 9th - 18th (during the two weeks preceding Spring Break, March 22nd - 26th). When planning medical or dental appointments, please avoid these days as much as possible. If you cannot avoid school hours entirely, please schedule absences during the last hour of the day. More specific information on the tests will follow. Thank you for your cooperation in this logistically challenging time.

-- Amanda Avallone

Bolder Boulder Training

We will begin training March 8th. I have two volunteer parents to help with training but we can always use more! If you have a talent and/or passion for running and could offer one afternoon a week for 12 weeks (3:15 - 4:00 p.m.) we'd love to have you. Contact Wendy Blakemore at wblakemore2@comcast.net or leave a message at school.

Students and Parents! Join us for training and get ready to repeat as Middle School Champions in The Bolder Boulder. We will have an information meeting at lunch and after school on Thursday, March 4th. Training starts Monday, March 8th . We will hand out training schedules and discuss the many options for training. There is no charge for training.

Correction

In the last issue of Summit News, there were misspellings in the article about students participating in the Chinese New Year Assembly. Correct spellings and thanks again go to Victor Li and Vicky Li.

News Worth Repeating …

From the Art Department

The art department would like to receive the following donations: fabric scraps (any kind), wrapping paper rolls, and buttons and beads, etc. At your office there may be large rolls of paper. The cardboard tubes at the center of these are also very useful. Students will be making several quilts and will be in need of a few assistants to assemble and sew the final squares together in February. Please contact Ms. Dornbush to volunteer or leave donations in the office. Thank you!!!

Attention IBM Parents

If you are an IBM employee and Summit parent, please let us know. Also please let us know in what way you have volunteered at Summit (work days, judge for Science Fair or History Day, guest speaker in a class, field trip chaperone, cooking class participant, etc.).

Please e-mail Cheryl Runyon (cheryl.runyon[at]comcast.net) or Dolly Dean (dohdean[at]travelandsports.com). Thank you for your participation at Summit and thank you for your assistance in developing this concept letter.
