Concert Tonight … and Thank You!

We anticipate a great concert, once again, TONIGHT, thanks to wonderful performances by our students and the generous volunteer effort from our parents.

We couldn't have prepared for (and accomplished!) this event without help from David Schermerhorn, the VanLoons; Diane Pesenti; Alan Hayes; Penny Hannegan; the Oatmans; Bonnie Lucara; Yuming Han; Laurie Kuelthau; Shari Wind; Suzanne Metzler; Hillary Johnson; Mimi Repucci; Grace Galler; Karen Forman; Loretta Melhado; the Weidleins; the Reisfields; Jim and Pat Adams; Marc Cahn; the Schallers; the Kapsaks; Claire Stepleton; the Seltzers; Pam Ringebach and Laura Holloway. (If we have inadvertently left your name off of this list, please accept our apologies.) We truly appreciate the efforts and support of these volunteers and our great parent group. Thank you again!

REMINDER …

The 3rd quarter ends March 19th. With Spring Break the week following, we will handing out the grade cards to the students on or about April 6th.

PARENTS …

Please remind your children to periodically check the erupting lost and found mountain if they are missing anything.

An Afternoon of Poetry

Parents, students, friends, pets, stuffed animals ... you are all invited to a poetry performance by Summit's English III classes. Come hear the humorous, poignant, absurd poems these students have crafted. We've all enjoyed working with Bryan Marshall from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts who has helped us to find our inner-actors. The performance will take place immediately after school on Wednesday, March 17th. It will run a little over one hour with a short break for refreshments. I hope to see you there.

The Board Report

March 4, 2004 -- Ashley O'Connor, Summit Board

The Board discussed the following:

Regional History Day Results

Thirty-five students from Summit participated in Regional History Day on March 6th, competing with other students from middle schools in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain School Districts. Students presented their research projects in one of four formats: exhibit, performance (skit), documentary or paper. All projects have a common thread, related to this year's theme: "Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History."

Of our 35 Summit participants, 15 students (one alternate) and their 9 projects qualified for state competition. Qualifying students will compete in Colorado State History on Saturday, April 24th, at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Thank you to all parents, siblings and students who made Regional History Day a positive and memorable experience for all. Congratulations to all the participants of Regional History Day!

-- Sam Havens

Have a Great Spring Break

HELP! We Need a Piano Player!

We are in a difficult predicament concerning our spring musical, Guys and Dolls. We have not been able to secure a pianist, someone to play the entire show as well as April rehearsals. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:

Rehearsals: April 5th - 8th , 3:30-5:30 p.m.; April 12th , 4:30 - 9:00 p.m.; April 13th-15th, 4:30- 8:30 p.m.

Performances: Friday, April 16th, 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 17th, 7:30 p.m.

Though I've spoken to a couple of dozen pianists in the area, the problem we face is that we have about $300 to offer for services; most pianists have an active teaching schedule that provides them a lot more money than we can offer. If anyone has any ideas or connections, please call me at (303) 499-9511 ASAP.

AND …

"On behalf of the entire faculty and staff, I'd like to thank our PVC for an amazingly wonderful Staff Appreciation Week. Every year we are pampered so nicely, but this year was above and beyond! From kind messages and treats in our boxes to breakfast, desserts and a Mardi Gras luncheon, to fun "stumpers for prizes" to delightful massages, the week provided us daily reminders of how lucky we are to work at Summit. Many, many thanks to our A-1 coordinator, Karen Van Dusen, and all of the wonderful volunteers who spent so much time making the week extra special."
