2. Lunch in the cafegymtorium tomorrow (April 2nd) will include hors d'oeuvres, pheasant under glass, and Beef Wellington. Formal evening attire is required.

3. Student Council is holding the annual "Rites of Spring" festival on May 21st. Activities will include light bulb planting, plant potting, primrose pruning, perennial perusing, and proboscis picking. Get in touch with your inner sprout. B.Y.O.T. (Bring Your Own Trowel).

4. $2.2 million in gold bullion was found in the multi-purpose room yesterday. If it belongs to you, please see Mrs. Wharton in the front office.

5. From this point forward, anyone found with a hat in their possession except on Friday will be turned over to the Department of Homeland Security.

6. CSAP testing will continue throughout April and May. By order of the Colorado State Department of Education, no actual teaching or learning is allowed to take place during this time.

7. Spring has sprung -- and you know what that means: Watch out for flying coils!

8. Mrs. Weber will be dissecting an entire cow in the life science classroom after school today. Students with strong stomachs are welcome. Barbecue to follow immediately afterwards.

9. The math department will be holding its annual "Math Festival" on May 15th after school. Activities will include favorites such as: "Pin the Fraction on the Polyhedron," "Dialing for Common Denominators," and "Bobbing for Isosceles Triangles." Protective eyewear is required.

10. Tomorrow will be a switch day, although the schedule will be a little different than usual. If your last name ends with a vowel (which does include "Y"), 1st, 3rd, and 7th periods will switch with 2nd, 4th, and 6th periods; 5th period and lunch will switch. If your last name ends with a consonant, your regular schedule will remain in effect unless it is snowing in which case you should attend all of your classes in inverse order.

11. Several of Summit's neighbors have reported becoming ill due to toxic fumes emanating from some students' lockers. The Colorado Department of Public Health will be conducting an investigation next week.

12. The front office has received several complaints regarding students singing to themselves and causing a distraction to students who are talking to themselves. Therefore students are asked to refrain from singing to themselves in the future.

13. In addition to the Blue Ribbon award, Summit has been recently notified that we will also be receiving the gold ribbon, the yellow ribbon and the purple ribbons as well. And that should just about wrap it up!

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!

Attention New and Returning Summit Students

As you make summer plans, please keep in mind the following dates: School starts on August 23rd for new students; all new and returning students have a full day of classes on August 24th. The district follows a different schedule and does not start quite as early. Summit's charter mandates that we have school 180 days per year which is more days than the district requires.

Great Job, Math Guys!

Congratulations to Marshall Carpenter, Thomas Davids, Victor Li and Charlie Wilcox for placing second among 27 teams in Colorado at the state competition at the Colorado School of Mines on March 20th. Boltz Middle School in Fort Collins edged them out by only one point.

Marshall won the individual competition for the second year in a row, and Thomas placed third in a field of 202 competitors. Both stunned the audience with their speed in the exciting countdown round, where competitors go head-to-head in front of hundreds of spectators. Marshall and Thomas, along with two students from Boltz, will represent the state of Colorado at the national competition in Washington D.C. on May 7th.

Summit MATHCOUNTS practices continue on Mondays from 3:15 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. in Room D with Coach Frohbieter. Sixth and seventh grade students who are interested in competing next year are encouraged to drop by and try their hand at some out-of the-ordinary math problems!

Art News

It's All Sewn Up: A beautiful quilt, created by the Semester Abroad classes, has been completed. This rich, cloth production celebrates the many heritages of our students. It will be hung in the school this spring and may appear at the District Art Show at the main branch of the Boulder Public Library. It is a wonderful creation based on the collaboration of many talented students. A tremendous thank you to Mrs. Joan Nagel and Ms. Donna Wharton for assembling and sewing the quilt squares together.

Art Along the Creek: Ms. Dornbush's popular summertime art camp is filling up quickly! Registration will close when eight students have enrolled. The camp will run for two, 2-week sessions: June 21st to July 2nd; and July 5th to July 16th. Both camps are held from 9:00 a.m. to noon. If you'd like the special opportunity of drawing and painting along Boulder Creek this summer, please contact Ms. Dornbush right away, talya_dornbush@yahoo.com.

History Club Spring Projects, 2004

All students and teachers are welcome to join us for our spring projects. Come to history club Tuesdays at lunch in Mrs. Kapsak's room or visit with the project chairs.

And congratulations to Emily Woods and participants of the Spring Book Swap and Book Drive for their donations to poor children, and to Nicholas Gerstle and participants in the Showers to Go project. Both of these successful projects were completed at Spring Break.

Tools for Learning Update -- Dolly Dean, Chair

Have You Contributed to This Year's "Tools for Learning" Campaign? We are asking every family to help us reach our goal of 100 percent participation. Every donation counts -- in whatever amount is comfortable for your family. We are counting on you!

The amount of money we raise is important, but so is our participation rate. Foundations and other grant programs look at parental participation in the annual fund campaign when considering grant applications. So far, 68% of our current families have contributed to this campaign -- if you have been meaning to return your pledge, PLEASE DO IT TODAY! Additional pledge cards are available in the office and your pledge card can be returned to the office.

We are pleased to say that we have now received $91,980.05 in donations and pledges from 185 currently enrolled families, 18 alumni families and numerous foundations and corporations. We are getting SO close to our goal of $100,000 which will help us to meet a number of unmet needs, including upgrading our computer equipment and facilities. Thanks to the following families and alumni for March contributions:

***IMPORTANT: We have received one credit card donation on which we are unable to read the donor's name. If you made a credit card donation in early or mid-March and your name does not appear on the above list, PLEASE CALL Dolly Dean at 303-473-9600 so that we may acknowledge your donation.
