Greetings
from the President
Sue
Hintz-Siegrist
I always feel like I'm off and running after Thanksgiving, with all the holiday activities to come.
This time of year we need to remind ourselves to slow down and enjoy the season, family and friends. As we all look forward to participation in the holiday concerts, be mindful of your health and well-being. This is a wonderful time of year and the events we have ahead will certainly add to the spirit of the season.
Now we need to turn our attention to the few remaining rehearsals, and come prepared and ready to work so we can enjoy and be proud of our performances. Take advantage of the great web site connection that Esri and Joe have prepared for music review. Even a brief time of listening and looking over your music, or highlighting will improve music comprehension.
Pass the word about our hard work and the beautiful music we will be performing for the holidays. Invite friends and family to join us for the concerts. Be proud of your accomplishments!
Happy Holidays!

...thoughts from Concert Manager Miriam Lindahl
“SONYA”
The ladies’ dressing room of a mall anchor store can
be very scary: The surrounding mirrors are certainly cast-offs from the Fun
House at a carnival; the impersonal lighting makes the pores on your nose look
huge; the sticky muzac hangs in the air—what a discouraging place. The mall gods designed these cubicles to
humble women—that is why, I decided several Saturdays ago, that girlfriends
shop together. It is a way of hurling
their own kind of sisterhood defiance back at the indifferent universe.
However, I was alone; wearing my red LL Bean fleece,
clogs and no makeup. I planned to shop
for Thanksgiving napkins.
She said her name was Sonya and that she could help
me. I explained that I might be looking
for something in black. It was for a
chorale concert and there were guidelines:
nothing shiny, nothing see-through, long, black hose and shoes. Little individualism, but formal. I was
thinking, “drop dead gorgeous.” Her eyes betrayed, “How did this woman find me?”
The selection was large…lots of beadwork this season.
Clothes with bugle beads, spangles, and feathered things dipped in glitter
never got off the rack. The elegant
Nehru jacket with sparkling threads and sequins was ruled out. Besides it
needed a smart holiday necklace. No!
Black gossamer skirts cut on the bias to the knees –pudgy knees, too
short, too sheer—were out. I clutched a
lacy camisole and big shirt—no!—again,
too sexy and (sigh) too small. The
skirts were too full and the rustling made too much noise. The best fitting slacks were in navy—no!
Sonya’s choices were fast dwindling.
We found an understated jacket with matching velvet
pants which the store would alter.
However, the clasp for fastening was designed with large shiny stones—no!
Sonja knew immediately to change the hook to a black “frog”. I left with my alterations slip and her
business card. She reminded me to wear
the right underwear—“I know that you know
that” and that “sparkling earrings (read: diamonds) and expensive perfume would
really set off this outfit.” No!

WISH THE CHORALE MEMBERS & STAFF
THE VERY BEST OF THE 2004
Your Concert Managers will remind Santa
to include on his list of ‘those who are naughty and those who are nice’:
Christina Brady and Stephanie Wanek as nice! The $5,000.00 grant from Xcel Energy
Foundation and the $1,000.00 grant from the Neodata Foundation are
wonderful. Well done! We also recommend
to Santa the good sports who willingly move the piano and bench at practice,
the almost unsung who set up/tear down risers, and the folks who locate our
fine ushers/Chorale Ambassadors for us.
All
Boulder Chorale members are welcome to attend Board of Directors meetings, or
talk to any board member about an issue that we should discuss at the
meetings. The meetings are generally
held at Atonement on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Please let Sue know if you plan to attend.
