Greetings from the President
Sue Hintz-Siegrist
WOW!! Can you believe it...we are 179 members strong! What a wonderful turn out we had for registration, and we have had to turn down several requests to join since then as well. The Chorale is on the move in more ways than one.
We can all look forward to a great season ahead thanks to the efforts of our staff, volunteers, and board of directors. I'd like to fill you in a bit on what goes on behind the scenes to make your participation in the Chorale possible and enjoyable.
As the Chorale grows and matures, so do our needs for both volunteers and financial support. The staff and board of directors have worked hard over the summer, attending meetings to plan for a season of inspiring concerts, fun, and financial solvency. A great deal of thought goes into planning for stress-free registrations, music distribution, rehearsal plans, etc. Our decision to establish the Chorale office and home here at Atonement was a big step in putting our organization on more professional ground.
Our fundraising co-chairs have been busy considering activities and grant applications that will help bring in money to operate the Chorale, pay our bills, and provide reasonable salaries for our staff members. Additional revenue is generated by our concert ticket sales, and fundraising activities such as grocery script sales, Ebay auction sales, fundraising dinners, etc. It all contributes to a balanced budget, and, we hope, happy Chorale members.
As you consider which activities you may want to participate in and enjoy, consider offering your help for one activity or event. This not only gives you the opportunity to give back to the Chorale, but is also gives you a chance to get to know other Chorale members. Purchase grocery coupons and other items that provide you with valuable services and generate money for the Chorale. Think about what 179 people could do if they put their minds to it!
Austria Tour Update
Stephanie Wanek
During rehearsal on Tuesday, Oct. 12th, a rep from our tour company, MCI, will make a brief presentation about the Austria trip. There will also be a Q&A session to address your questions. As a result, the deadline to register for the tour is extended to Tuesday, Oct. 19th. We hope the additional time and information encourages more of you to join the Chorale group for this unique performance opportunity. Please keep your questions flowing to the Tour Coordinator, Stephanie Wanek. Email: smwanek@yahoo.com.

Opportunities to Sponsor the Chorale
The fundraising team will be preparing sponsorship packets with letters to distribute to local businesses and individuals. Our goal is to increase the number of our season sponsors. We will also be making these packets available to you. If you know a business or someone who may support the Chorale, please extend them the opportunity to support us! In particular, many businesses can benefit from the opportunity to have their support published in every season program. With many concerts scheduled in venues seating over 600 people, this can be an economical way for large exposure for a company.
Calling all Chorale Alumni...
The Chorale is preparing to mark its 40th anniversary season next year. We are looking for ways to reach out and recognize the individuals who have sung with us over the years. Everyone who participated in the group also contributed to the success and longevity of the Chorale. Sorry to say we've lost touch with some of these alumni. If you know previous members, please complete an Alumni Contact Card (get one at the Chorale Marketplace) and allow us to reconnect. It would be great to include them in some of our festivities next year. Thank you.

Fundraising (continued)
The Chorale Marketplace
Just outside the sanctuary we have created a new location for you to participate in the Chorale's varied fundraising activities. The Marketplace is meant to reduce the need for lengthy announcements about fundraising. You can peruse the offerings and news as you arrive at rehearsal and during the break. Most recently there have been concert CDs, Entertainment Books and Grocery Scrips. Your participation in these programs helps support the programs of the Chorale. Please check it out every week to see what's new. Thank you.
Ebay and Pasta Success - Thank You!
What a great turn out we had for our Noodles & Co dinner on the 21st! We hope you all enjoyed bonding with your Choarle pals - We sure did! The meal alone raised $400 for the Chorale and we collected quite a few terrific Ebay items including scuba gear, original art, a sink, saddles, computers, antique furniture and even a motorcycle. As these items sell on Ebay, we'll be sure to let you know of the results! Thanks for all your support!
Donate More Stuff!
If you think you missed the chance to unload your stuff, you're in luck! The chorale is now an On-The-Block Auction client and they will continue to collect and sell for our organization year-round. On-The-Block Auction company has two drop-off locations in Boulder County. Please bring your items to locations listed here and name the Boulder Chorale as the beneficiary of your donation. You can also go to their website at www.ontheblockauction.com for more information on what sells on Ebay.

SCFD Legislation
This year our application to the SCFD resulted in a $5,000 grant. The Boulder Chorale and many other non- profit organizations receive a large part of their fund from the SCFD. The legislation making this possible will sunset next year if it is not approved on this November's ballot - Please vote YES in November to renew the funding for SCFD! The SCFD money comes from a tax of one cent on every ten dollars - a small price to pay for arts and cultural organizations to thrive. Watch for this issue on the ballot and tell your friends and family how valuable the SCFD is.
The Chorale Guild
Did you know that members of the Guild helped put on the Noodles & Co. dinner? During October, they will be stuffing and addressing packets to increase our sponsorship. If you are interested in joining this volunteer corps and to help our efforts to raise funds and support the Boulder Chorale mission, please contact Septhanie - smwanek@yahoo.com, or Christina - cbrady@comcast.net.
All Boulder Chorale members are welcome to attend Board of Directors meetings, or talk to any board member about an issue that we should discuss at the meetings. The meetings are generally held at Atonement on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m.
...thoughts from Concert Manager Miriam Lindahl
The seven new risers are safely stored and the sales of the Colorado Composers' CDs have been brisk. Sincere thanks to all. Now is the time to turn our thoughts to the first concert, the Fauré Requiem on November 5 & 6. My article deals with two time critical issues: setting up the risers and the dress code.
In October, the riser committee will be organizing those who are interested in assembling the risers at First United Methodist Church in Boulder. These hardy peoplelargely guysare the unsung heroes of the Chorale. The sign up sheet for duties will be out by the middle of October. This is a great way to help if your interest is simply to lend a hand (read that: muscles) in the short term.
At this time I do not know if we are expected to help out with ushering at the November performances. Spouses, friends and relatives last year did such a splendid job. At each performance in the season, one of my nurse friends helped out; I always felt we were in good hands! I will keep you posted.
"The mission of the Boulder Chorale is to provide a beneficial musical experience to singers and listeners alike." This is the opening sentence of our Mission Statement. To perform at a quality level takes commitment, practice and attention to detail. Every voice is important. The singing is diminished by the absence or inattention of even one person. How the singer LOOKS matters too!
Please refer to your copy of the BOULDER CHORALE MEMBER HANDBOOK 2004-2005 for specifics.
