John is a Denver native who learned to play clarinet while attending public school in Jeff County. He comes from a musical family. His grandmother, who just turned 100 years old, plays piano and tells jokes "for the old folks" in Mesa, AZ.

John learned to play ukelele and tenor banjo in the U.S. Navy, going on to play in local pizza parlors during the '70s where he once had 435 songs memorized. After six years of playing alto sax and clarinet with the Hot Tomatoes Dance Orchestra, John is n ow clarinetist with Your Father's Mustache Band. During the day he is a service electrician for McBride Electric. since he has both his electric work and music career, John says, "I guess I'm wired all the time".
