Derek is a founding charter member and past board member of the Boulder Friends of Jazz. This UAL captain can be found at the jam as often as the job permits.

The Dixieland passion began around age 14. He's a self-taught player who, by age 16, found himself touring with the local base band (and his Dad) of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. (He came to the US in 1972.)

Derek formed the Prohibition Six in 1981, has performed for BFJ festivals and functions as well as the Central City Jazz Festival. Derek, his wife Carol and his "mum" Edith (when she's stateside) reside in the Boulder area.
