Lance Acker - Clarinet
Lance's performing days began during high school, in Pueblo at the local
Shakey's. He continued performing with the pizza franchise while in
Boulder, where he earned his Bachelor of Music Ed. degree. Steady work in
Glendale clubs with Your Father's Mustache helped with graduate school
expenses. with a Master's Degree in clarinet performance in hand, he
settled in Denverto teach woodwinds. Shortly after thr move, Neil Fischer
made the offer to join the original Pearl street Jazz Band. they
occasionally subbed for the Queen City Jazz Band at Basins Up- on
Larimer. On July 4, 1980, Lance was offered Lee Peters chair in the QCJB,
and, with the exception of a one-year absence, he has held that position
since the QCJB days at the Arapahoe Bar and Grill. Lance resides in the
Denver area with his wife, Toni and their dog, Gus. This winter he will
perform on the Japanese flute with Toni's group on a European tour. Toni
plays the Japanese taiko drum.
After a hectic teaching schedule traveling the jazz festival circuit, the
Ackers enjoy cross-country skiing, the family getaway in Victor and Lance
works on his long-term project....completion of a 1953 Jaguar coupe that
he's owned since his college days.
