On Saturday, October 24, 1998, the first fund raising event of the Table Mountain Association took place at the Altona Grange. Before 8 a.m. a line had formed at the grange door. People were eager to come inside and look at all the treasures local residents had donated to the Table Mountain sale.
The sale was a great success. There was enough collected after expenses to finance many future newsletters. In addition new members were enrolled and the Table Mountain Association t-shirts attracted many buyers. Most participants agreed we should hold another sale next October. A specific date will be selected and announced in the spring.
Besides an opportunity to clear out garages and recycle merchandise in a good cause, the sale brought together area residents. One overheard comment was "I’ve always wanted to see the inside of this building". Others expressed appreciation for the work the association has done so far. One of the few current Altona Grange members saw the Daily Camera article and couldn’t resist driving down from Boulder to see what it was all about.
The success of the sale is due in large part to Anne Bliss. Without her hard work, expertise, and organizing ability it would not have been the great success it was. Other member volunteers who especially gave of their time are Penne Adams, Jim Day, Barb Abizaid, Curtis Chong and Steve McCoy. Table Mountain Association Board members also deserve mention for their support of the sale from beginning to end. Thanks again to everyone who contributed in any way.
