Susan Marine 2. Basics should include: language arts and writing, mathematics, science, history and social science, foreign language, physical education, the arts, and computer usage. A range of meaningful electives/exploratories should be offered to allow students the opportunity to try out a variety of classes on a short-term basis; these may include food science, shop, special art classes, poetry, etc. Return to Question List

Susan Marine 3. A new representative Facilities Committee, advisory to Board, is now studying building needs and growth. Future rate of growth in the District and willingness of voters to support bond issues will determine if we must make at least a partial shift to year-round schools. Experience of nearby districts should be studied. In addition, changes may be needed in the length and structure of the traditional school year to improve student learning. Return to Question List

Susan Marine 4. Reorganize, decentralize Curriculum Department to better serve teachers; clarify what teachers are responsible for teaching, leaving methods to their judgement. Diminish school budgets for staff development, but retain some centrally coordinated staff development. Limit committee work by teachers. Incorporate drug education into health curriculum. Evaluate programs when external funding ends to determine if essential to continue. Use para-educators, other staff to allow teachers to teach. Return to Question List
