Art Quintana 2. Adolescents, ages 11-14, attend middle school, physical and emotional growth years, needing parental and teacher support and patience. Core curriculum: Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, Art, Music, Foreign Language, learning life skills, PE, time of exploring interest areas. Essential to middle school student: advisory teacher, an advocate for students who plays significant role in students' transition to high school, overall responsibility well-being of student. Art Quintana 3. Realities: diminishing educational funds, continuing inevitable growth. Alternatives we face: short term -- redrawing boundaries, longer term -- year round schools, long term -- work with state legislature to change how we fund education. Want to listen and work with parents/communities. Bottom line: equitable education for all kids. Return to Question List

Art Quintana 4. Implication: choices/cuts needed because 'schools can't do everything.' Global technology and competition demand an education that prepares students for our future.
