Each student needs challenge, high expectations, excellent instruction and critical feedback. Students need concrete learning experiences, and to know that what they are learning is relevant. Currently, technology is expanding into language arts, math, science and foreign language. Technology is essential. Current block scheduling provides better opportunities for individualized learning. Joseph Winslow 3. Year-round schools are an alternative to the growth we are experiencing in BVSD. One of several alternatives that would need to be considered. We are not yet to the point of implementing such an alternative. Research indicates no significant gain or loss in student achievement with year-round schools. However, I feel there could be some academic benefits. I continue to support this concept. Very important for significant processing within our communities. Return to Question List
Joseph Winslow 4. Primary mission of our schools is the educational function in the classroom. Have taken steps to eliminate some of the traditional services, and charging fees for others. We should not cut core academic areas, including art, music and PE. Further evaluate remaining services to determine what could be scaled back rather than eliminated. Continue to work with the Legislature for adequate funding. Secure the funding our communities feel is necessary for desired and/or essential services. Return to Question List
