: Michael:
: The wildfires you mention (now gone and out of people's awareness) are one piece of the puzzle relating to water, land-use and our local environment.
: I'm particularly interested in ways of making water everyone's business, and of course fire danger (and actualy fires) are good attention-getters...but they don't necessarily get the long-term message of sustainability out there.
: Water's an issue that often tends to be devisive....(read the article in the current Westword on the St. Vrain at www.westword.com for a reminder of this)but water is also what connects our greater environment together...and to us.
: Dry conditions and fire supression help lead to these wildfires...and often there are serious flash floods after the fires which impact water quality downstream. At the last watershed forum a woman from USGS mentioned that in this region (the foothills in particular) there's evidence that fires and resulting flash floods occur every 100 years or so.
: I'm also curious about how to sustain discussions such as this. Any ideas?
