The wildfires you mention (now gone and out of people's awareness) are one piece of the puzzle relating to water, land-use and our local environment.

I'm particularly interested in ways of making water everyone's business, and of course fire danger (and actualy fires) are good attention-getters...but they don't necessarily get the long-term message of sustainability out there.

Water's an issue that often tends to be devisive....(read the article in the current Westword on the St. Vrain at for a reminder of this)but water is also what connects our greater environment together...and to us.

Dry conditions and fire supression help lead to these wildfires...and often there are serious flash floods after the fires which impact water quality downstream. At the last watershed forum a woman from USGS mentioned that in this region (the foothills in particular) there's evidence that fires and resulting flash floods occur every 100 years or so.

I'm also curious about how to sustain discussions such as this. Any ideas?
