Community Group Forum

Following the publication of a draft Visitor Master Plan in April of 2004, BATCO met with OSMP staff and stakeholder organization representatives in a Community Group Forum to resolve various issues and concerns raised by the draft plan. After more than 25 hours of meetings, consensus was reached on a number of recommended modifications to the draft Visitor Plan.

Unfortunately, the staff and Board of Trustees of the Open Space and Mountain Parks Department elected to reject the most important of the Community Group Forum recommendations. BATCO, along with other stakeholder organization representatives and community members, is distressed with the department's position. The issue has been appealed to the City Council. The text of BATCO's letter to the City Council summarizing the issues and expressing our concern is available at BATCO City Council Letter (also available is a BATCO email to the City Council clarifying the intent of the letter).

The Community Group Forum recommendations are detailed in the group report which is available at Visitor Plan Community Group Report. A map summarizing the group's area management and trails recommendations is also available as either a JPG or a PDF file.

The text of a letter describing the Community Group Forum process and a summary of its results is available at Visitor Plan Community Group Letter.

A outline of some of BATCO's comments on draft Visitor Plan is available at BATCO Draft Visitor Plan Comments. Our comments were endorsed by many of the community group representatives.
